About the store
My whole career – from baby-sitter, to teacher, to educational consultant has always revolved around one thing – a deep love of children and an urgent desire to create the best learning opportunities for them. This yearning has colored all aspects of my career – starting with my work in the lab schools of MIT and University of Connecticut where I worked 1:1 with both student learners and student teachers in highly creative environments – to my work at the Regional Multi-Cultural Magnet School in New London Connecticut where I had the latitude to team teach in a progressive bi-lingual mixed grade classroom – to my 20+ years of consulting with Responsive Classroom© where I have been blessed to work with the leading thinkers and doers in the field of education – to the authoring of books where I have been able to outline ways for teachers to bring more creativity and spirit to the academics of their classroom – to my ongoing work with individual teachers, principals, superintendents and students.

Chanting is an easy way to incorporate movement playfully and purposefully into your academics and curriculum. I love using these chants as a way to gather children at circle time and during transitions to harness energy in a positive and productive way. All learners can participate in some way, they can chant, turn the pages or point to the words as others chant along. All you need to know how to do is keep a steady beat! And perhaps most importantly, the Common Core Standards of reading, speak

We all were given a name, and we all are very special with our names. Children love hearing their names. Doesn't it feel great when someone says to you, "Good Morning, Susan! How are you today? I've missed you." Learning how to greet others and say good morning is a critical life skill that we can teach our children. Experience

Teaching style

I believe in the possibilities of good teaching – and how teachers hold the future of each child in their hands every day. Teachers have their own interests, their own creative sparks, their own passions – by being purposeful and planful in their approach to discipline and teaching, they can preserve the time and energy required for them to allow their own creativity, personality and voice to shine through. Though the art of teaching is thousands of years old, and the expectations and environment in which we teach changes daily, the heart of a good teacher stays the same. My goal is to provide you with classroom resources to harness your students' energy in a positive, productive, and purposeful way, while ensuring that the essential human elements of the teacher-student relationship are maintained and fostered.
