I have students complete this guided research worksheet on forces, loads and shapes before the Straw Tower Engineering Challenge (posted on TPT). It is also a good, standalone lesson. Also use as a ready-made sub plan! This aligns with the Common Core Learning Standards in reading and writing for Technical subjects. (Answers to the worksheet can be obtained from the website.
