45-45-90 Special Right Triangle - Notes and Practice

Created by
Eric Douce
These are notes and practice problems with keys for 45-45-90 special right triangles. I give a little background behind why they are called special right triangles along with a 3 step process on how to find each missing side length. I allow you the opportunity to do 1 example, then let your students do some practice. I also include notes on what to do if your students come across a 45-45-90 special right triangle problem with squares.

These are notes and practice problems with keys for 30-60-90 special right triangles. I give a little background behind why they are called special right triangles along with a 3 step process on how to find each missing side length: short leg, long leg, and hypotenuse. I allow you the opportunity to do 1 example, then let your students do some practice. I also include notes on what to do if your students come across a 30-60-90 special right triangle problem with equilateral triangles. The ac

This worksheet is over Pythagorean Triples. I have 2 examples explaining what Pythgorean Triples can be along with a definition of Pythagorean triples: 3 positive integers that balance out the Pythagorean theorem. I have 3 examples of what Pythagorean Triples can't be: can't have decimals, can't be negative, and can't not balance out the Pythagorean theorem.

These problems cover multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction from the Order of Operations. These set of notes and practice problems are designed so students can self-assess as they complete the assignment. I have answer banks and other methods for students to check their answers as they go so teachers can focus on the students with the most needs. The key is included as well.

Parallel Angle Relationship Practice

This worksheet is used to help students understand the difference between the 5 different parallel angle relationships: corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior, consecutive interior and consecutive exterior angle relationships. If they can understand the differences between these angle relationships, then you can add actual angle measures to these problems or a different worksheet to build on your lesson. If you go to my website, www.doucehouse.com, you can find videos on my webs

These notes are word documents so you can modify if you'd like. These are notes on the perimeter of polygons. I start of with pretty basic problems, then have them solve for a missing side if given the perimeter and side of a rectangle. The last two perimeter problems are algebra based in that students must solve for x first knowing the perimeter and the sides in relation to x. For example, what if the sides of a triangle are x, 2x, and 2x+4 with a perimeter of 54. Find x and then find one

This is a word document so you can modify the worksheet if you want. This worksheet covers the area of squares, rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, rhombi and kites. I grouped rhombi and kites together because they have the same equation. This worksheet has a total of 12 problems where I have the basic area problem then I put in a hard problem for each type of shape. The hard problems require the students to find a missing side instead of the area or require the students to use

I use this as notes for introducing parallel angle relationships. I have important vocabulary at the top to assist with the lesson: congruent, supplementary angles, and transversal. I print these notes out on colored paper so my students can find these notes quickly for later lessons throughout the year. I use these notes more as a discussion piece to make it more student-centered. I ask students what words should go in the blank spots by looking at the examples and looking at the names of

These two pages are notes for finding missing sides of a right triangle using the Pythagorean theorem. The first page is for finding the hypotenuse, 'c', and the second page is for finding a missing leg, 'a' or 'b'. I provide one example problem for both kinds of problems with three practice problems for each type of Pythagorean problem. Two of the problems are word problems, one for each type of Pythagorean problem.

This worksheet are notes to cover the following angle relationships: Congruent Angles: vertical angles, alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, corresponding angles Supplementary Angles: linear pairs, consecutive (same-side) interior angles, consecutive (same-side) exterior angles. I use this worksheet as an introduction to the parallel angle relationships. I use this worksheets as a discussion piece with the students. I ask different students what the missing word should be in e

This worksheet is over proving if a triangle is a right triangle or not. I explain in two examples what has to happen in the Pythagorean theorem for 3 side lengths to make a right triangle. If the Pythagorean theorem balances out, then it is a right triangle. If the Pythagorean theorem doesn't balance out, then it isn't a right triangle. I have videos on my website that explain the Pythagorean theorem in more detail. www.doucehouse.com

I use this worksheet as notes. I add all kinds of notes and comments while working this worksheet with my kids. The alternative is for them to copy all the notes down which takes forever and no one likes to do. Use these pages together or for separate notes. If you go to my website, www.doucehouse.com, you can find videos on my website to explain these concepts as well.

Teaching style

I am known for breaking down complex concepts into clear, simple explanations that help students build confidence and truly understand the material. My teaching approach is patient, supportive, and structured, focusing on meeting students where they are and helping them make steady progress. I believe every student can succeed in math with the right guidance, encouragement, and clear instruction.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have many but I'm proudest at getting my students to believe in themselves. I focus on helping students make better decisions along with enforcing work being shown to build confidence in their math skills. I have taught over 2000 students and have helped many of those students achieve more than they thought possible.

My own education history

I have a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. I started tutoring students from elementary level up to high school level in all subjects while in college, even taking a class where I taught engineering concepts to at-risk middle school students. I decided early in my engineering career that education was my calling and have been teaching ever since.

Additional biographical information

I've been married since 2011 and have 2 wonderful boys in elementary and middle school.
