Students list basic information about the book, such as its title, author, and genre. Then, they write a short paragraph providing detailed reasons for why someone else would enjoy reading this book. Students sign their own names and put today’s date at the bottom before posting on our board. Once completed forms are posted to the board, o

Student Reflection Journal - SEL Writing - Teacher & Student Notes Template PR

During one especially difficult year, I began using a student-teacher journal with one of my students. She had difficulty expressing herself verbally without losing control, but I discovered that she was able to communicate through writing. We began writing notes to each other – she when she needed a time out and me in response to her or when I knew she needed some encouragement. The journal writing broke down barriers between us and helped to establish a trusting relationship. ⭐️ This resourc

Experience

Hello! I'm Jennifer Martinez - your virtual partner to help simplify your teaching life, boost your proficiency, and restore your work-life balance.

Teaching style

I am a big believer in Orton Gillingham, which is a structured, systematic approach to teaching reading and writing (think SOR before SOR). I limit whole group instruction and allow students to experience learning individually and in small groups. In lesson and unit planning, I follow a backward design approach using the Understanding by Design method.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I’ve had the privilege of working with the following organizations: • NEA, Master Teacher • International Literacy Association, Contributing Writer • National Writing Project, Teacher Consultant • Association of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, Associate level Member • BetterLesson, Master Teacher • Scholastic, Teacher Advisory Panel • ScootPad, Teacher Advisory Panel

My own education history

A little more about me… • B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education, K-6 • M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with Literacy focus with reading endorsement • Trained in the Orton Gillingham approach • Trained in the workshop approach for reading and writing at Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Columbia University
