Dialogue Tags and End Punctuation Practice Worksheet

This worksheet requires students to write quotation marks in correct places, as well as fill in the blanks with the correct end punctuation. The possibilities for end punctuation is given in the directions. There are 10 questions, but each question has one or more quotation marks and end punctuation missing. I have used this worksheet in my class and it has proved good for practice, warm-up, and quick (pop quiz) assessment. ADDITION AS OF APRIL 2022: I have included a key. Traditionally, I have

Ancient Egypt Webquest & Vocabulary

This is a great way to start a unit on Ancient Egypt. The webquest begins with a KWL ("L" portion to be completed after finishing the webquest), which also allows students to stay on topic as computers boot up. The webquest can be completed in about 1.5-2 classes (if 50 minute classes) or the remainder can be assigned as homework. Student objectives: - Synthesize information from multiple passages of informative text. - Paraphrase and summarize information. - Identify and record facts from an

Late Homework Allowance Pass

This word document has three passes (2-sided) which students cut and attach to their late homework. If the homework, with pass attached, is handed in within 2 days of the due date, the student receives full credit. I have also included 1/2 credit with parent signature for up to a week. I have used this in my classroom to cut down on the number of late homework assignments and seen success! Since this a word document, you can edit as you see fit!

Fiction Reading Log: Direct & Indirect Characterization

I use SSR as a way to decompress after Friday quizzes. I also assign 60 minutes of reading at home over the weekend using a book the student has chosen (reading level appropriate, of course). In conjunction with SSR and the assigned reading, students complete a Reading Log for every 60 minute block of reading. The Reading Logs are excellent ways for students to 1) review and practice literary elements we are learning in class and 2) be accountable for their homework. Throughout the year, student

"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" Poetic & Literary Terms Hunt

Using "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth, students work in pairs to find the following poetic and literary terms: - Rhyme - Simile - Alliteration - Assonance - Personification The students are required to cite an example of each term and then explain HOW and WHY their citation is an example of the term. There are also two poem analysis questions at the end. Also included: "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" poem. I have used this handout for years and it has proved successful as

Exit Ticket

A simple exit ticket that asks students to rate their understanding of the day's lesson and say one thing they don't understand or one question they have. This is a good way to get feedback, as well as have students reflect on their own understanding of concepts. It's also good for a class that is "shy" or does not raise their hands easily. Exit tickets work best when they are done fairly regularly as they become routine. Exit Ticket by Hshahteaches is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribut

About the store

Experience

I have been a teacher for fourteen years. Most my experience is in high school, where I have taught all grade levels. Currently, I am teaching in an 7th-12th grade middle and high school, where I teach ESL/ELL, Social Studies, and English classes.

Teaching style

Giving a foundation of information through short notes, but then allowing the student to interact and explore the information through project-based, multiple intelligence, and/or team learning. I like emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as I feel this leads to not only a deeper understanding of the material, but also a more well-rounded global citizen.

My own education history

Bachelors degree in English and Creative Writing, with a minor in Psychology. Post-baccalaureate in Secondary Education.
