Oftentimes students get stuck when writing. This resource was created to help students break through writer’s block. Students take a “basic” sentence from their writing and put in the details on the Stretch a Sentence graphic organizer below. Encourage them to add details to each part of the sentence as they work. Use this is as a prefix suffix anchor chart. It is a nice visual to show students how prefixes go at the beginning of the root/base words. Suffixes come at the end of the root/base words.

The Brown Bag Biography is an excellent beginning of the year activity that will help your students get to know each other. Each year I do this during the first days of schools and it has sparked wonderful conversations amongst the kids. Print out the pages back to back. Place class journals in a bin and allow students to select a journal of their choice during work on writing time, to work on for early finishers, or when conferencing with students. This form is editable so that teachers can modify prompts to meet the needs of each classroom. Teachers may also create notebooks as the year progress to increase student engagement based on specific things happening in the classroom.

This product can be used as an informal assessment or as a targeted intervention for students studying Place Value. This worksheet includes 4 digit numbers, a place for students to record a 4 digit number, a column to draw a 4 digit number using base ten blocks, and a column for students to practice writing numbers in expanded form. This is parent questionnaire that can be sent home at the beginning of the year to get to your know students and their families. This questionnaire only has the basic because the beginning of the year is a busy time of year for all families. This questionnaire is quick, clear, and concise.

This product can be used in many different ways. My students have a lot of fun trying to complete this low stress assessment no matter what the subject is. Slip this place value mat into a protective sheet or laminate for students so they can use it over and over again while they study the value of numbers. This can also be used as a great informal assessment to see what kids know about place value. This is also an excellent accommodation for special education students use are struggling to grasp place value concepts.

This is a great addition for a word work station. Teachers just need to print this out and write in the letters that they please. Makes a great holiday addition for students to try to find themed words.

Students must look at the word caterpillar and try to create as many words as possible using only the letters in the word caterpillar. The letters do not have to appear in word. I.E. till, plate, rate. Words must be at least three letters long. Proper nouns do not count.
