This is an activity I created to bring the requirements of the Common Core missing addend in all positions. We needed to supplement the math program in our school and to integrate Green Eggs and Ham activities into all subjects.

In the face of the Common Core being enacted in Maine, I created this document to practice subtraction fluency. I have many resources for addition but not as many for subtraction. In order to decrease anxiety in having to do as many subtraction problems as they can in first grade, students have equations with the same number to practice fluency and build confidence. In this document you will find word problems that are first grade friendly and align with CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems. These worksheets lend themselves to independent practice as well as identifying clue words that may help students decide if they are adding or subtracting. There are 20 word problems included.

This missing addend practice bundle includes a double-sided worksheet for each trimester with increasing difficulty. At the end there is also a 2 sided worksheet that includes doubles addition and a doubles + 1 for the backside.

In switching to the Common Core the math test had to be rewritten to reflect the Common Core subjects that we teach. This flipchart was made to celebrate the author's birthday. It has several pages of finding a rhyme for words used in this book, matching contractions, opinion writing and missing addend. The opinion writing fits Common Core requirements for opinion writing. The missing addend worksheet at the end, was made to supplement our math program to fit the Common Core requirements for missing addend in every position.

Add the room Snowflakes has been created to have a fun math center where students practice addition and move around the room. To differentiate, students can add the subtraction equation on the answer form.

My students have had a great time with Add the Room and are ready to start adding larger numbers. Since we will be doing Gingerbread as our theme, we needed a Gingerbread math center.
