I wanted a poster to remind my students to think about whether their topic is a watermelon or seed topic.
I also wanted to have a resource to visually demonstrate how to go from a watermelon topic to a seed topic with a place to write what the details would be.
I can read and write teen numbers were written to help my students learn the pattern and formation of teen numbers as well as to practice one to one counting as they fill ten frames. We watch and sing All Teen Numbers Start with a 1 on youtube so the vocabulary matches that song.

In the face of the Common Core being enacted in Maine, I created this document to practice subtraction fluency. I have many resources for addition but not as many for subtraction.
In order to decrease anxiety in having to do as many subtraction problems as they can in first grade, students have equations with the same number to practice fluency and build confidence. There are pages with the whole number as 5 or less as well as subtracting from numbers up to 10, making it appropriate for K, 1,
Younger grades often study Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas. Here is a fact based readers theater to do in your classrooms. The dates for Hanukkah change each year, so add those in yearly.
In this document you will find word problems that are first grade friendly and align with CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems. These worksheets lend themselves to independent practice as well as identifying clue words that may help students decide if they are adding or subtracting. There are 20 word problems included.
This graph and data table are designed to give kids practical applications for data collection and graphing. If you study the 5 senses it's a great integrated link to Science as well!
Mistakes have been fixed. If you need different questions for a different most common eye color, please email us.
This missing addend practice bundle includes a double-sided worksheet for each trimester with increasing difficulty. At the end there is also a 2 sided worksheet that includes doubles addition and a doubles + 1 for the backside.
This Sneetches Promethean board flipchart was created to discuss vocabulary, encourage students to think about how behavior affects others, write their opinion of author's message and a chance to do fair shares.

I made this flipchart to lead a discussion of Cat in the Hat with my first graders. It includes questions following the Common Core requirements for close reading, opinion writing on what the children in the story should do and a place value activity that Ashley and I will be using in math. Both of our classes will be dressing in red as Things from the story and we will give them each a number so that the students have to write down the tens and ones for the number each Thing is given. Math Assessment aligns with First Grade Trailblazers Units 1-6. This is an updated form that follows the critical focus areas of the Common Core. It also includes a copy of the pacing guide as well as the form we use for grading the assessment.
This assessment can be used without using Trailblazers as your curriculum.

This flipchart has questions about the Eric Carle book the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It also has questions about metamorphosis and the size of an egg. At the end of the flipchart, students are given the chance to write their opinion about the book. That page can be printed so that you can have students writing their own opinion individually.
