This is an activity I created to bring the requirements of the Common Core missing addend in all positions. We needed to supplement the math program in our school and to integrate Green Eggs and Ham activities into all subjects.
I can read and write teen numbers were written to help my students learn the pattern and formation of teen numbers as well as to practice one to one counting as they fill ten frames. We watch and sing All Teen Numbers Start with a 1 on youtube so the vocabulary matches that song.
THIS IS THE FLIPCHART VERSION TO BE USED WITH ACTIVINSPIRE. The books can be printed from ActivInspire. If you would like to download the free version of ActivInspire, you can watch videos on my blog at:

In the face of the Common Core being enacted in Maine, I created this document to practice subtraction fluency. I have many resources for addition but not as many for subtraction.
In order to decrease anxiety in having to do as many subtraction problems as they can in first grade, students have equations with the same number to practice fluency and build confidence. There are pages with the whole number as 5 or less as well as subtracting from numbers up to 10, making it appropriate for K, 1,
In this document you will find word problems that are first grade friendly and align with CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems. These worksheets lend themselves to independent practice as well as identifying clue words that may help students decide if they are adding or subtracting. There are 20 word problems included.
This graph and data table are designed to give kids practical applications for data collection and graphing. If you study the 5 senses it's a great integrated link to Science as well!
Mistakes have been fixed. If you need different questions for a different most common eye color, please email us.
This missing addend practice bundle includes a double-sided worksheet for each trimester with increasing difficulty. At the end there is also a 2 sided worksheet that includes doubles addition and a doubles + 1 for the backside.
I made this flipchart to lead a discussion of Cat in the Hat with my first graders. It includes questions following the Common Core requirements for close reading, opinion writing on what the children in the story should do and a place value activity that Ashley and I will be using in math. Both of our classes will be dressing in red as Things from the story and we will give them each a number so that the students have to write down the tens and ones for the number each Thing is given. This i
Math Assessment aligns with First Grade Trailblazers Units 1-6. This is an updated form that follows the critical focus areas of the Common Core. It also includes a copy of the pacing guide as well as the form we use for grading the assessment.
This assessment can be used without using Trailblazers as your curriculum.
Studies show that informing students of the goals for lessons helps students prepare for the lesson. Marzano includes using scales for students to demonstrate progress as Part of Element 1: Providing Clear Learning Scales and Goals.
These scales have been made as a tool for students to
analyze and report their progress.
Included are the Common Core Grade 1 Math Goals
that our school chose as Priority Standards.
Word Problems: 1.OA.1 & 1.OA.2
Addition Fluency: 1.OA.6
Subtraction Fluency: 1
Place Value Mystery Pictures
In order to provide my students with more practice with finding numbers based on the number of hundreds, tens and ones, I made these pictures on 120 charts.
Included in this packet are the example pictures, numbers for students to read and charts to 120. There is a fully filled chart, a partially filled chart and a blank 120 chart.
Mystery Pictures are:
House
Heart
Dr. Seuss Hat
Smiley Face
Sun

This flipchart was made to celebrate the author's birthday. It has several pages of finding a rhyme for words used in this book, matching contractions, opinion writing and missing addend. The opinion writing fits Common Core requirements for opinion writing. The missing addend worksheet at the end, was made to supplement our math program to fit the Common Core requirements for missing addend in every position.
I can read and write teen numbers were created to help my students who are unsure of teen numbers. It also includes 10, 11 and 12. The format is connected to All Teen Numbers Start with a 1 on youtube. We watch and sing that song to help understand the pattern and format of the teen numbers.
My first graders will be reading I can read teen numbers as shared reading, then coloring it as they reread it independently. They will also be using stamp pads to put fingerprints into ten frames to co
Common Core Standards require first grade students to be able to know whether to add or subtract in a word problem within 20 as well as add 3 numbers. These word problems allow students to practice together or to read and find clue words that tell whether to add or subtract with Goldilocks themed problems.
For integrating subjects, pair with the Goldilocks readers' Theater.
This flipchart has been created for Promethean Whiteboards with pages to reflect fact recall from the book. It also has 2 pages to finish a sentence giving an opinion about the book as well a common core math graph activity.

Current math lessons need to be adapted to fit the requirements of the Common Core State Standards. One of the ways I have adapted one of the lessons requiring writing subtraction problems was to read students word problems so that they have to figure out the whole number and the part that is taken away. To facilitate practicing word problems as a center activity or intervention, I turned the word problems into a game.
