First Steps

This reader is designed for beginning readers. The text is patterned - "Look at me! I am a ---." Students are encouraged to use reading strategies to figure out the unknown word. [Look at how the word starts; Think about the sound that letter makes; Look at the picture.] The last page is for students to write their own sentence using the same patterned sentence, and draw a picture. This book is meant to be copied on different colored paper. See below. Students cut on black lines, and discard top portion. Cut pages are assembled in order and stapled into a book. Students practice reading the book. For younger students, it is suggested you use letter size pages. For older students, you can reduce pages to half size.
