Five Preps

I use this with my Study Skills class to get practice close reading. I usually attach a copy of the story at the END of the packet so that the students can refer to it while answering the questions. I typically read it aloud to them first, then set them loose on the rest of the packet. Makes a great, all inclusive sub plan, and the extension activities can be used for homework. This is a project I created for my middle school students. We work on it after STAAR and while waiting for scores, because it's a great way to release stress after cramming for the test. The kids get to be creative and design their own business, it's a fully 'self-guided' packet, that walks them through forming a business, calculating net and gross profit and overhead, as well as teaching them the basics of income tax!
