This is the full curriculum I use for teaching Algebra 1. It contains all the TEKS and they are deconstructed for you with basic explanations. I print these out and hand them out first of the year, then we work through them together cutting and pasting in STAAR questions and examples from their books, then the kids have a complete study guide come STAAR time. It's also a great way to show growth, and easy for administrators doing walk throughs, you can show them the exact TEK you are working on.
This is a powerpoint quiz game with over 70 slides. Answers are included. I use it the week before STAAR to break up cramming so the students can test their knowledge against each other for prizes! Covers random sampling of the TEKS, the kids enjoy the immediate feedback of knowing whether they got them right or wrong. Or you can delete the answers and use it as a test. Fully editable.
I use this with my Study Skills class to get practice close reading. I usually attach a copy of the story at the END of the packet so that the students can refer to it while answering the questions. I typically read it aloud to them first, then set them loose on the rest of the packet. Makes a great, all inclusive sub plan, and the extension activities can be used for homework. Appropriate for middle and highschool students, I use it as an introduction for my middle schoolers to learn about Hemm
This is a fun poster project I use to wrap up my unit on the Atmosphere. I then allow the students to take a formative assessment with their posters near their desks. So if they do a good job, basically they get a 'cheat sheet' on the test. It really motivates them to do good work and let's the more artistic students have a chance to gain a substantial number of points.
Special for Texas Teachers!!!! I've complied a STAAR review for my 8th Grade Pre-AP Science Class!!! Great Bell Ringers or packet, fully editable with rewards system that I use to motivate students! It includes all the chemistry and physics concepts from last year's STAAR, which should be on this year's STAAR. Answer key included!
This is a comprehensive study guide covering EVERYTHING in the Texas 7th Grade TEKS. My teachers use it as final review. Can be used as in class activity where students fill in the blanks either using their books, computers, or a projection on the board, or as a homework activity. Over twenty pages long with short answer as well as fill in the blank type questions. Fully editable so you can add STAAR questions for your problem areas!
I use this scavenger hunt to take a break from STAAR review and give the students a bit of a 'fun' assignment. You can project or read the directions, I typically pass out a copy to each student. They really like it and helps test their knowledge of the periodic table. A Clue style mystery with clues leading to who the 'murderer' is. One student gets to play the murderer which is revealed through their search. There are 3 different types of clues, one is the murder (labeled Packet A1) make sure
This is a TEKS aligned consumable study guide for students. It's the curriculum I use to pace our year, having the students fill out as we review for STAAR. It contains everything they need for STAAR. THIS IS BASICALLY THE SAME THING AS MY 8TH GRADE STAAR STUDY GUIDE. IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THAT DO NOT BUY THIS IT IS JUST REORDERED. I don't want anyone getting the same thing twice!!! The STAAR study guide is just designed for the weeks coming up to STAAR this is for use all year.
I use this song analyzation to introduce a unit on feminism to my all-girls class. It can be used middle school through high school. I do make sure to explain the events of 9/11 in age appropriate terms first. It makes a great activity to do on or around 9/11. The girls really seem to get into it, not only the ones who are interested acting but also my little science enthusiasts. It's an all included packet; makes a great sub-plan although I personally like dancing around to the song and having
I complied a STAAR review for the 2018 exam using ONLY questions on the reporting categories included on this test! Fully editable with rewards system implanted in activity, huge 17 page packet. I use them as bell ringers or homework in the weeks up till STAAR. Typically I print a couple of pages at a time (e.g. pages 1-2, back and front) to make for quick and easy hand outs.
FULLY comprehensive of ALL TEKS for the 2018 STAAR!! It features fill in the blank and short answer questions that will ensure your students achieve mastery!! Thirty pages of material for students to work on in class or as homework. I personally send it home as homework for the last weeks before STAAR so that students can look up the definitions at home. Other teachers have used it as an in class activity where they display the correct answers on the board while students copy it down. I use inc
This is a project I created for my middle school students. We work on it after STAAR and while waiting for scores, because it's a great way to release stress after cramming for the test. The kids get to be creative and design their own business, it's a fully 'self-guided' packet, that walks them through forming a business, calculating net and gross profit and overhead, as well as teaching them the basics of income tax! The students really get into it, because they feel like it's relevant to the
Fully editable study guide/work book for the 8th Grade STAAR!!! I use this in the weeks prior to STAAR to allow students to fill out and study on their own time. It contains short answer problems where students dissect the information in order to increase mastery! I send it home as a homework the week before STAAR and give a grade for returning it, but it would well as an in class activity too. One of the teachers in my department uses it as a foldable for her students to cut up and paste in the
Full Study Guide filled with sample questions as well as STAAR advice. I send it home as homework about a month before STAAR for my students, also makes great activity in class. Fully in line with TEKS contains everything they need to know.
I updated my student workbook/TEKS plan for 2018-19 school year. This contains the FULL 8th Grade TEKS, with explanations, all chunked and translated for you and your students. I reorganized the TEKS so that it works the students through the year in a logical format with prerequisite skills. I use this workbook throughout the year and have the students cut and paste examples and STAAR questions into it. I have blank pages set aside for that. you can remove those if you don't want them.I print th
I use this in the last week before STAAR as an in class activity. You can use it to test knowledge or as a project in class. I give the students the STAAR guides I created that they have already filled out and have them use that to fill this out. However, you can just project the answer key on the board and have them fill it in, that works as well. Covers ALL TEKS required for STAAR fully comprehensive. I like to send it home with them once they are done so they can look over right before the te
Fun, 2 day to week long project on reading Hemmingway's "The Faithful Bull". It was a lot of fun for the students who were in our cultural classes to pair this with their section on bull fighting. I use it to introduce our study of 'Book of the Five Rings' where the students learn and make posters about different qualities that make up a moral code. Makes a good sub packet for a couple days absence because there are plenty of extension activities. I typically attach a photocopy of the story to t

This is the whole class respect agreement activities I use with ALL my classes. We do them typically over the first two days of school. It's a little more fun than the 'get to know you' games since it encourages critical thinking and allows you to get a feel for your class and how best to structure learning to fit their needs. I like it better for the higher grades though, it can be used with lower grades as well.
This study guide covers ALL the 6th Grade TEKS to help ensure your department has mastery come 8th Grade. My teachers use this as study guide for their final exam at the end of the term. It's a consumable guide, the students fill in blanks and complete short answers. I give my students extra credit for having filled it out and stickers to decorate the front with for every class they have it in. Some of my teachers use it as an in class activity where they use their notes/book/computer to fill it
This is a fun poster project I use at the end of the year when the kids need a break and we are all sick of sitting in seats doing work. It makes a nice big poster that displays all their knowledge from the year, so great to show parents and for teachers to use to show professional growth. Also useful as a project on days other classes are testing and you have a couple hours to review for STAAR. Students work in groups of four, it's aligned to 8th grade TEKS but you can easily edit it for your o
