Experience

I have been teaching for 10 years but have specifically worked as an English language educator for the past 5 years. Helping students learn a new language is exciting and challenging! I love watching them learn and progress in their English language.

Teaching style

My classroom has a revolving door as I teach many small groups daily. These groups are differentiated by their English acquisition level. We work on vocabulary and grammar predominantly as I scaffold lessons to support their learning. I was educated on the SIOP teaching strategy and implement many of its facets. Pre-teaching vocabulary was the focus of my Master's final project. Each of my students have an interactive notebook and we get pretty good at cutting and pasting by October.

My own education history

Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education grades 1st - 6th from Northwestern College (IA) (1996) Master's degree in English-as-a-Second-Language from Morningside University (2024)

Additional biographical information

My family and I love to compete and participate in life. When we are not cheering on the sidelines for our favorite teams, we are playing games and traveling together. I also love to work in my flower garden and work outside on our acreage. There is not much time for sitting indoors but you could find me with a good book and a 1,000 piece puzzle in the winter.
