This is a critical skill not only for beginning writers that will help practice editing skills. Suggested Use: I encourage students to use decoding skills to read the sentence first. Next, I ask students to put on their “editing goggles” and look for mistakes. Then, I tell students to rewrite the sentences while making the corrections. Finally, I let them pick their f

I am so excited about the teacher manipulatives that come along with this series. The teacher manipulatives add a hands-on element to the lesson that really gets the kiddos interested. Furthermore the teacher manipulatives add a visual to help support a wide range of learners. I made these because I wanted my worksheets to be more of a lesson than practice. With the integration of teacher manipulatives and space for students to label images I can teach so many skills at once; segmenting, ble

Why use story maps? They improve students' comprehension. They provide students with a framework for identifying the elements of a story. They help students of varying abilities organize information and ideas efficiently. I keep these by my library. When students turn them in, they receive a nickel for their classroom banks! It always makes me smile to read the completed map.

Experience

I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Charter School in California. This is my eighth year teaching. My undergrad is in Early Childhood Education, I hold a Multiple Subject California Credential, and have a Masters in Teaching with a Best Practice specializaiton.

Teaching style

I teach in a center driven rotation throughout the day. Students are placed in heterogeneous groups which allow for differentiated instruction. I have the freedom to let the students show me where to go next, set the pace, and choose what we will focus on. I listen, discuss, and assess to help further decide where we are headed. I feel very lucky to have this freedom, but it makes for long hours.
