Scientific Method Lab: Effects of Sugar

This lab was designed to be used by 5th Graders with our Kindergarten Science Buddies But would work well as a lab with Grades PreK-4. I have specifically added graphics to the instructions to account for the reading ability of younger students. This has worked well in helping students set up, track, and make solid conclusions about a lab. I have done a lab similar to this with vinegar to look at eggshells, but It was fascinating for students to see what sugar did to an eggshell over time and ma

STEAM & Space Science: Mars Colony Space Unit Organized- NASA Sites Linked

I love to use the fantastic teacher and student resources at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab for my Science and STEAM classes. The only problem I have had is that there are so many things, and I only have so much time for each unit. This year I took the time to organize my favorite links and videos so they were all in one place. This document has all the fantastic resources I use for my space unit and extensions organized for a quarter-long unit that culminates in students designing their own Mars co

UTEC: Essay Writing as a Genre

UTEC: Essay Writing as a GenreĀ UTEC is an acronym and tool that I developed in 2009 to help my students to organize their ideas and to expand upon them to fill a page or paragraph. The process of using UTEC as a district or grade-level team allows students to have a structure to remind them of the components of quality writing. This approach to test prep, quality paragraph, and essay writing fits into the genre model that students are already familiar with through their Language Arts and Reading
