About the store
I have taught grades 7-12th since beginning my teaching career in 2010. I have participated in a lesson study group run out of Cal State University, San Bernardino. This group of teachers from around the district meet once a month to research, plan lessons, implement lessons, and reflect on the lesson (not the teaching). Through this I have had the opportunity to teach in others' classrooms in a high school Algebra 1 Repeat course, Algebra 2 course, and Geometry course.I have also taught at a Jr/Sr high school where I was the only high school math teacher, some years having 6 different preps for all levels of mathematics. I have taught college level Precalculus and Calculus in the high school through Central Washington University.

Algebra 1 Math Portfolio Project
View ALL available Portfolio Projects in my store. Ever find that after end-of-the-year testing students are less inclined to be engaged in lessons? I know I have. That’s why I modified a portfolio project introduced to me by a colleague for my own students. This portfolio is great for a student-created textbook they can take with them to the next school year. If students are at the same school, the teacher can pass along their portfolios to their next math teacher to use as a resource. Student

Ratios, Proportions, & Candy...OH MY!!!!
This is a yummy hands-on activity for students to engage in, where they get to eat the manipulatives.
Give each student some candy that comes in different colors:
• Individual fun size bags
OR
• Small cups filled with a scoop of candy from a larger bag
Have students complete the first section of the activity, guessing statistics about their yummy data!
Each student completes their own individual worksheet using their data and answering the questions below the table.

Error Analysis - Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide Fractions
In this error analysis, students are given a problem that is already solved in the left column. Students must review each problem, describe all errors (not just the first error), and correctly solve the problem.
This activity is great for students who need practice identifying and correcting errors. This practice also helps students during assessments by allowing them to check already solved work and not assume it is correct, which is sometimes what happens when students are asked to check th

Characteristics of Geometric Solids (Graphic Organizer & 8 Nets)
Manipulatives can be very useful, especially for kinesthetic learners. The included graphic organizer (B&W and Color) can be used with or without 3D solid manipulatives. It is written to be used with 3D shapes students can see and touch. A net of each geometric solid listed in the graphic organizer is included, all with tabs to glue/tape.

Accelerate Your Math Skills! - Convert Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions
This learning task is a great way for students to practice basic math skills that should be automatic (multiplication tables, certain percents, etc). They are also great for differentiating basic math skills for students. Everyone may start with the same AYMS! sheet but will be able to move on once they have completed the trial (see below). Famous Mathematician Project (Computer Based Activity)
Students research mathematicians who have made famous and well known mathematical discoveries that have led to the mathematics they learn today. Some of the mathematicians are known by name, while others are known by their work. This project targets Common Core Technology Standards, mainly for grades 6-8. Students will also practice computer research methods, PowerPoint creation, proper citations and referencing, as well as correct English grammar and punctuation.

These color-coded vocabulary notes help students find the mean, median, mode, and range of a data set through example. There are two sets of data that are used to show students the different possible outcomes when it comes to finding the mean, median, mode, and range of a data set.

Domino Activity - Simplifying Rational Expressions
This activity has students start with the "START" card, solve the problem on that card to find the solution, then find the solution on one of the other cards and circle the correct solution. Students continue this process until the "START" card is connected to the "END" card.

Teaching style
I use a combination of styles in my classroom. There is a time and place for direct instruction, guided instruction, group collaboration, and independent practice. I believe that each student is an individual and may learn differently than others. While differentiating can be hard for individual students, as a teacher, we have to make an effort to try.
