Functional and Practical Teaching

Students can practice identifying new words using context clues. The sentences and words are excerpts from Patricia Polacco's Pink and Say. Students record the underlined words, identify the context clues and write the meaning of the word. This activity can be used during whole group, small group, collaborative work, or independent practice.

This graphic organizer is for students to identify the topic and the main idea of the passage. Students circle the words that are repeated in the passage and identify them as the topic in 1-2 words.
