Environmental Print alphabet

One example of environmental print for each letter of the alphabet. Can be used as flash cards, displayed in the room, created into a mini book or cards on a ring, etc. Great to encourage kids who do not WANT to read or acknowledge that they know any letters of the alphabet (the "I can't" kids) and show them that they DO know how to read! We teachers can be so tricky!

Use this worksheet with the math manipulatives that look like bingo chips that are red on one side and yellow on the other. (Or any other 2 sided, 2 colored manipulative). Give the student 5 chips in a small dixie cup. Show him/her how to shake the cup without spilling and have him dump the chips onto the table. Have him color the dots to match the number of yellow and red chips he rolled. After he has finished all of the combos and has rolled his chips several times, discuss the different

Use this handy graphing sheet for sorting and graphing M&Ms. Students can either use M&Ms on the sheet (laminated or not) or they can color in the graph to show what colors of M&Ms they had (before they ate them!) Hope this is helpful!

Use this pennant/flag as a "home project" as required by Head Start. This project can be used alone or in conjunction with the "All About Me" pennant/flag. Students fill out the flag with their parents at home and insert a photo or drawing of their family unit. Set up for LEGAL SIZE paper to ensure large display area.

Class book printable. Either have each student draw themselves on each page or glue on a photograph of each student. Laminate or put in page protectors. Will soon be the favorite book in the library! On the last page, take a picture of yourself or another teacher eating an apple. Kids will LOVE the surprise ending. Absolutely cannot take credit for thinking of this activity, but I did create this document myself for my own use and thought others might enjoy.

Food groups activity, healthy vs not healthy foods

In this activity, the students will discuss pictures of 24 different food items and sort them into either "Healthy" or "Not Healthy" categories. This can be a difficult concept for young children, so I recommend using this as an assessment of their understanding after a couple of days of discussion. Getting them to realize that tasting "good" doesn't always mean that it is "good for you" can take some effort! Good luck! Hope this activity is useful for you!

The first week of preschool is a learning experience for everyone. The students need to be taught how to use all the materials in the room, all the procedures of the classroom, and how to interact with friends. This lesson plan is for that first learning week. Color-coded standards listed are the Pennsylvania learning standards for preschool.

Winter and Christmas calendar numbers

I needed a cute set of calendar numbers for the months of December and January, so here ya go! I included a "Christmas" set with Santa and a Christmas tree as the AB pattern. A snowman and a snowflake make the other AB pattern. Or you can obviously combine the sets together to make your own more complicated pattern on your calendar. At the end of each set, I added a blank set of cards for you to do with as you please! Hope it's helpful for someone!

These are items that I use in my dramatic play area to create a florist shop. The file has pictures, words, and prices (very low $$ value to make for easy addition) for 6 different types of flowers. In our dramatic play flower shop, we use plastic and fabric flowers and plastic vases and tissue paper to create bouquets for "sale." I also have a free Flower Shop sign available that can accompany these prices and pictures. Enjoy!

Where possible, I've included a link for a better description or printable for the activities. With each

This activity asks students to sort photo cards into one of two categories: homes that animals live in and homes that people live in. I suggest using this activity as a large group or small group activity first before putting it into your science area. The kids always enjoy looking at the pictures while we discuss the differences between homes that animals live in and our own homes. Hope this activity is useful for you!

This activity asks the students to sort pictures (photos) related to weather: sunny, snowy, windy, rainy, and cloudy. There are 6 pictures for each of the 5 types of weather I have available. In my own classroom, I put magnetic tape on the back of each printable piece and had the activity mounted on a magnetic surface. The students came to the science center and sorted the pieces onto the correct category.

This is a group of games that I plan to use in my own classroom that I thought might be helpful for others. Game #1 is "Number Find" where students will use either a bingo dauber or a math manipulative to mark the numerals they see. Then they write the number of times they found that numeral in the star shape. I have made a "Find" for numerals 1-20. Game #2 is "Number Maze" or "Number Path." Have the students either circle, use a bingo dauber, or manipulatives to mark the path of the nume
