I taught Head Start (ages 3-5) for 8 years then earned my Master's in Special Education.

Use this worksheet with the math manipulatives that look like bingo chips that are red on one side and yellow on the other. (Or any other 2 sided, 2 colored manipulative). Give the student 5 chips in a small dixie cup. Show him/her how to shake the cup without spilling and have him dump the chips onto the table. Have him color the dots to match the number of yellow and red chips he rolled. After he has finished all of the combos and has rolled his chips several times, discuss the different
Use this handy graphing sheet for sorting and graphing M&Ms. Students can either use M&Ms on the sheet (laminated or not) or they can color in the graph to show what colors of M&Ms they had (before they ate them!)
Hope this is helpful!
I needed a cute set of calendar numbers for the months of December and January, so here ya go!
I included a "Christmas" set with Santa and a Christmas tree as the AB pattern. A snowman and a snowflake make the other AB pattern. Or you can obviously combine the sets together to make your own more complicated pattern on your calendar.
At the end of each set, I added a blank set of cards for you to do with as you please!
Hope it's helpful for someone!
I use this weather graph during my morning meeting. Each day, my weather helper decides what he/she thinks the weather is like today and colors in one box on the graph. We count and do other activities as the graph becomes filled in and then we keep each month's graph in the science area to compare month to month.
Hope this graph is helpful for you!
Note: This graph is intended to be printed on LEGAL-SIZE paper so that there are enough spots to be colored in for each type of weather (to a
This is a group of games that I plan to use in my own classroom that I thought might be helpful for others.
Game #1 is "Number Find" where students will use either a bingo dauber or a math manipulative to mark the numerals they see. Then they write the number of times they found that numeral in the star shape. I have made a "Find" for numerals 1-20.
Game #2 is "Number Maze" or "Number Path." Have the students either circle, use a bingo dauber, or manipulatives to mark the path of the nume
This is a sorting mat for sorting shape flashcards into two categories: shapes with straight lines and shapes with curves. Page 1 is the actual mat that can be laminated or printed on cardstock. Pages 2-3 are flashcards of basic shapes and some more difficult/complex shapes (trapezoid, cylinder, etc.) for closer to Kindergarten time. Simply use the shapes that you want to study at any given time and have the student sort the shape cards into the correct column. Ask him/her WHY they are putti
Use the provided penguins and icebergs to count objects onto the numeral cards or penguin/numeral cards. The penguin cards offer an opportunity to practice one-to-one correspondence and the blank numeral cards for numeracy and counting #'s 1-10.
You could also use real objects (floral stones, gems, reusable plastic ice cubes, plastic penguins or other polar animals, etc) to replace the provided counters onto the numeral cards.
These are a big hit in my classroom and I hope they are in you
In this "scavenger hunt" type activity, students search for pictures hidden throughout your classroom (or wherever you choose to hide them). When they find a picture, they record it on their graph.
In my own preschool classroom, I plan on using this as a small group activity. I might have the students partner up...I haven't decided yet! But this could also be done as a large group activity if your students are older and can work more independently.
This is a set of Winter-themed I have, who has cards with SHAPES. The clipart used is not "Christmasy" so it can be used any time in the winter months.
In order to make a larger set of cards (I have 17 students, so I made 18 cards) I had to get very creative with the shapes included. Basic shapes are all included, as well as some of the more complex ones (3D shapes).
Included shapes: square, oval, circle, rectangle, triangle, octagon, trapezoid, hexagon, pentagon, heart, crescent, rhombu

This is a board game that I created to help my students who are working on identifying numerals and quantifying numbers in a small group of 3-5 players.
Use whatever you'd like as a game piece (character erasers, math manipulative etc.) for each student. First player picks a card from the deck, which should be shuffled thoroughly. Numeral cards = move that many forward on the board. Other cards direct you to "move back 1" or "move back 2" or to "move to..." a spot on the board that has tha
