Got the Reading Bug

Activities to go along with the book Eat Like a Bear. Activities go along with the closed reading lesson given in curriculum engine. Students sort different foods based on the information in the book and then they can write about what they would eat if they were a bear and when they would find it. I bound the writing pages into a class book.

A quick easy way to practice open and closed syllables. Closed syllables end in a consonant cvc and open syllables end in a vowel vcv. Can be used as an assessment or practice page. Great for small group practice as well.

Teaching Common Core and need to post your standards? Then these are for you. This product contains all of the first grade RL, RI, RF, and L standards in child friendly I Can statements. Just print out onto colorful cardstock (do each group of standards on a different color) , laminate, and your good to go. Keep them easily organized by hole punching them and placing on an o-ring.

Are your kiddos excited for the winter break. Have them write a letter to Santa explaining what they would like to have. Good to use with wants and needs. Have students ask Santa for something they need and something they want.

These lists are based on several sight word lists. The lists have 100 words on each page except the last, which has less. An easy way to test your kiddos, just highlight the words they know and keep the list for when they are ready to test for those they don't.

Great game to use for those kiddos who need to practice their sight words. A fun game that can be played as a quick review or as a reward in small group. It contains the first 100 sight words (based on Fry word list) and whack cards. Students will be asking to play the game (mine always do) all the time. I have seen great growth in those kiddos who need the extra support.

Want to have a little fun with your math? This will certainly keep your kiddos engaged. Give each of your students a designated amount of pumpkins and let them place them on their picture. They then have to create the addition sentence based on their picture. Copy the pumpkins onto orange construction paper and mount the finished page on black. They make great bulletin board works of art.

A wonderful trifold to go along with My Librarian is a Camel! It focuses on the cause and effects, summary, and main idea of the text. Great for independent work or centers. It also allows for a great way to chunk the book for a deeper reading.

Stories of Migration is a wonderful book about animal migration patterns. This trifold was made to go along with the Journey's version, but can also be used for the stand alone book. This is great for whole group instruction for younger students or great independent work for older or advanced students. It's also a great way to break the book into chunks for a deeper reading.

A test on the parts of a bee and their life cycle. Students must use the word box to label the parts and then draw the stages of the bee life cycle. Meets several learning styles and rigorous enough for common core.

A great way to have students independently answer comprehension questions about Naya Nuki! It has students practicing summaries, cause and effect, inferencing, and flashbacks. I usually use this in conjunction with a student diary, where students write a summary as Naya Nuki. I alternate days between the diary and the trifold. A great way to break the book down for a deeper reading!

Great way for kids to practice their number sense and addition. Students have partner give a number sentence that equals the same amount. You could also have students find their equal answer partner to start with. Good quick assessment to see who knows their addition.

Looking for a fun fall activity to do with your kiddos? This sort lets kids sort fall objects into the five senses based on what they know about the object. Some objects might fall into more than one category, so its great for differentiation.
