This is a fun project that children will really enjoy! The students are in charge of designing a garden for the mayor of their town using centimeter graph paper. They must use the information about length and width to correctly design six seperate areas in the garden. They must then calculate the area and perimeter of each area. Once finished, students can add color and other finishing touches to make their garden design a masterpiece!
This activity can be used in a variety of ways: whole group activity, small group work, partner activity, or individual assessment. This activity sheet includes eight multi-step word problems that involve the four operations. Students will have to use their best problem solving skills in order to correctly answer each question.
This assessment covers all of the common core objectives that involve multiplication and division. In the assessment, the student must solve basic multiplication and division equations, use multiplication to solve division equations, as well as solve word problems that involve one or two steps. This is a great assessment for teachers to use at the end of their multiplication/division units.
This is a fun activity for students to show off their understanding of basic fractions (halves and fourths). Students add designs to the four stick people and then use fractions to describe the people. For example, if a student draws brown hair on 3 out of 4 stick people their sentence could read, "3/4 of the people have brown hair." I did this activity with first graders several times and they absolutely loved it.
This product helps teachers introduce the basic concepts of area and perimeter to their students. Students learn that area is the surface inside a two-dimensional figure and that perimeter is the length around a two-dimensional figure. This product provides several examples and chances for students to practice finding the area and perimeter of different shapes.
In this activity, students will graph the number of each color they receive in a snack sized skittles bag. This is a great way to introduce how to collect, organize, and present data. Once students have figured out the number of each color in their bag they will use the data to create a bar graph.
This a short but fun graphing activity that your class is sure to enjoy! Kids will learn the basics of collecting, organizing and displaying data using skittles.
