This is an activity designed to help students better understand how Linking Verbs help to hook a subject into a sentence. It's set up like a fishing game. The pieces however are not fish. I didn't want students to get hung up on the fishing visual but instead the act of hooking the noun with their linking verb.
This activity can be used whole class or as a language center.
I designed these task cards to create a sense of independence and autonomy during Work on Writing in Daily 5, but they can really be used for any writing time. They are written at a second grade level with some academic vocabulary.
The goal is that the students are able to locate and flip through the task cards during Work on Writing to find one that appeals to them. They can then take it with them and complete their writing project elsewhere.
