I am in my 27th year of teaching. I spent 10 years teaching special education ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. After 10 years I had the opportunity to transition to general education. I have enjoyed teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
3 and 4 digit subtraction with regrouping
These sheets start with a model for the kids. When we are first reteaching subtraction with regrouping at the beginning of the year we love to use these because it forces them to check their work. There is plenty of practice with subtraction across 0 (zero). These are used to supplement core math during our intervention block. Generally we correct them with the kids.
Skills, 3 digit subtraction with regrouping, 3 digit addition with regrouping, 4 digi
Skills covered addition with regrouping, subtraction with regrouping, multiplication facts, division facts, 1 by 2 digit multiplication, rounding to 10's, rounding to 100's rounding to 1000's, fraction number lines, fraction problem solving
This packet works great as a summer skills packet. I give it to my kids to keep math skills up over the summer. Parents love the answer key.
In the weeks leading up to our state test my teaching partner and I use these for homework in addition to or core
These 8 pages work on multi-step problem solving where students must analyze a data table, add a series of numbers, then subtract to to find the solution. Students also work on subtracting 4 digit numbers and finding the difference. Students also work on adding a series of numbers to find the missing digit. Our third grade team uses these for our intervention and enrichment groups when we are focused on addition and subtraction with regrouping.
5/16/15: Added an answer key-- product now total
2 pages of repeated practice in multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. The grid is set up to multiply numbers up to 20 x 30. Then they should write the partial products on the grid. Finally they will add the partial products to find the product. We tend to use this method with the on level and above level students in our 3rd grade intervention groups near the end of the year. This would be a great intervention in 4th and 5th grade for those who do not understand the concepts behind multi digit

Teaching style
I am a strongly believe in trying to reach students via their mode of learning. I also believe greatly in knowing what your target is and being very strategic with instruction. We are lucky enough to have Smartboards in every classroom of our school. Students greatly enjoy working on the board. The more engaged they are the more they learn. My special education background helps understand the vast range of abilities found in the classroom from year to year.
