I currently teach 2nd grade and love it! My school is very technologically advanced and I love finding interesting tech based activities for my kids to do.
I originally created this for a family math night. We gave each family a set of cards and taught them these simple but fun games to use with the cards. This powerpoint includes simple games to reinforce math concepts like addition.
This powerpoint introduces the concept of growing patters. There is a hungry monster that adds food to his belly each level of the pattern. This was created for a 2nd grade class, but could be appropriate for other grades.
Comprehension questions for Sharon Draper's Clubhouse Mysteries: The Buried Bones Mystery. Each chapter has 3 levels of questions which follow Costa's Levels of Thinking, but would be appropriate even if your school isn't AVID focused. One page of questions for each chapter and then a final project at the end.
This powerpoint has a varity of optical illusion pictures for students to look at and think about how they see things. This then transitions into different topics and develops the idea that people often view things differently.
I created this presentation to go over our school rules on the first day of school. The kids enjoy the interactivity of answering the questions on the slides. I print out the last few slides with the rules and consequences and post on our wall. This could easily be modified to fit your school's rules and consequences. Our school is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention School).
This presentation tells the story of why we have standard measurement. The story is that long ago a carpenter was ordered to make a bed for the queen. The king told him to make it a certain number of feet and the carpenter did. The problem was that the king's feet and the carpenter's feet were different. This is great to introduce a measurement unit.
This powerpoint tells the folktale of story "Saved By a Fly". At the beginning their are slides about the vocabulary in the story. At the end of the presentation, the story is told. this is a great way to introcuce folktales or fill in a few minutes of time. I used this after the 2nd grade Houghton Mifflin story "The Great Ball Game", but this could be adapted for any grade.
Around Easter, I took some time to teach my students about the beautiful Pysanky eggs. This powerpoint tells a little of the Ukrainian culture and shows the steps used to make the eggs.
This powerpoint is great for introducing the story "The Art Lesson" by Tommie DePaola. You can print the slides in handout form and have your students write their own sentences on the lines.
This powerpoint has lots of pictures of differnt textures. There is a box on each slide where students can tell you a texture adjective that can be typed onto the slide.
The power point was designed to help students prepare for the 2nd grade CTBS test. Students have to read the word and find another word that has the same sound in it.
This is an interactive presentation that I used to prepare students for the 2nd grade CTBS test. This is modeled after the test's format. Students select the word that is opposite of the underlined word in the sentence.
Stressed at sneak a peek night? Prepare this easy checklist to keep your kids and families busy so you can mingle and chat with parents. Students work their way around the room checking off items. Use chart paper for stations 4 and 5 to get information for a class playlist and inspiration quotes. See my other listing for a GoogleForm that could be useful in collecting information digitally if you don't want to use paper forms. Listing includes a checklist and station labels where appropr
This powerpoint is intended to introduce the concept of multiplication as repeated addition. It connects to the idea of a circus with multiple rings of activity. The slides at the beginning are teaching slides, the slides at the end are clipart that can be cut out, laminated, and magnetized to be used on the board to create your own problems.
Use a "4-in-a-Row" game board to help your students get to know each other! Students can take turns being the “Connection Captain” or assign it as a classroom job. Every morning, each student takes their labeled disc and uses it to respond to the connection question of the day. The “Connection Captain” informs the teacher which students are absent for the day based on which discs haven’t been used. Then they interpret the data for the class. Make sure to notice how much you have in common and
