I originally created this for a family math night. We gave each family a set of cards and taught them these simple but fun games to use with the cards. This powerpoint includes simple games to reinforce math concepts like addition.

This powerpoint introduces the concept of growing patters. There is a hungry monster that adds food to his belly each level of the pattern. This was created for a 2nd grade class, but could be appropriate for other grades.

Comprehension questions for Sharon Draper's Clubhouse Mysteries: The Buried Bones Mystery. Each chapter has 3 levels of questions which follow Costa's Levels of Thinking, but would be appropriate even if your school isn't AVID focused. One page of questions for each chapter and then a final project at the end.

This powerpoint has a varity of optical illusion pictures for students to look at and think about how they see things. This then transitions into different topics and develops the idea that people often view things differently.

I created this presentation to go over our school rules on the first day of school. The kids enjoy the interactivity of answering the questions on the slides. I print out the last few slides with the rules and consequences and post on our wall. This could easily be modified to fit your school's rules and consequences. Our school is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention School).

This powerpoint presentation uses a fish to compare numbers to 1,000. The fish eats the larger number.

This powerpoint tells the folktale of story "Saved By a Fly". At the beginning their are slides about the vocabulary in the story. At the end of the presentation, the story is told. this is a great way to introcuce folktales or fill in a few minutes of time. I used this after the 2nd grade Houghton Mifflin story "The Great Ball Game", but this could be adapted for any grade.

Around Easter, I took some time to teach my students about the beautiful Pysanky eggs. This powerpoint tells a little of the Ukrainian culture and shows the steps used to make the eggs.

This powerpoint has lots of pictures of differnt textures. There is a box on each slide where students can tell you a texture adjective that can be typed onto the slide.

Every morning, each student takes their labeled disc and uses it to respond to the connection question of the day. The “Connection Captain” informs the teacher which students are absent for the day based on which discs haven’t been used. Then they interpret the data for the class. This project asks students to design a cereal box fased on a story they have read. They attach the templates to the box sides. You can modify the teacher letter to give instructions to your students/parents.

This is useful to go over manipulative rules...sometimes I like to tell my 2nd graders that the manipulatives have voices only kids can hear. If I see my students playing with their manipulatives then I have to give the manipulatives a time out because they are telling my students to play with them and not follow the manipulative manners.

This can either be printed on a poster maker and laminated or copied and kept on a clipboard for students to sign up for classroom jobs.
