About the store
Hi! I'm Miss Carlie... I have the heart of an educator and the brain of a creator. I used to come up with the most ridiculous stories to teach letter skills. Like the time that I needed my Kinder students to understand letter directionality BUT I knew that they still couldn't tell their left from their right. I needed them to know that some letters face left, some face right, and some face front, so I created a silly story about a field trip that involves the 26 lowercase letters, their teacher, a butterfly, a camera, and the sun. And... IT WORKS! We utilize these stories as posters and voila... early literacy magic! I'm obsessed with making early reading, writing, and spelling extra fun by using a combination of storytelling, movement, art, and tactile learning.

Teaching style

Story-based, project-based learning... ALL THE WAY!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I may not have ever received a "teacher of the year" award, but I'm most proud of the moments when I forged my own path and leaned into innovation in education. My proudest moments include: 1. Guest posting for WeAreTeachers 2. Launching my own K-2 microschool 3. Creating and hosting local mommy and me literacy classes

My own education history

I've had the honor of working in the following educational settings: 1. Traditional, public-school classroom (2nd grade, 4th grade, & 5th grade) 2. Blended microschool (Kindergarten - 2nd grade) --> BEST career year of my life 3. Mommy and me literacy classes --> I'm still hosting these today and it's the most fulfilling career, seriously!

Additional biographical information

Let's see if you can guess where I live with these 5 clues: 1. I live in the only state with parishes instead of counties 2. My state looks like a boot on the map 3. My favorite holiday is Mardi Gras 4. I live in a small town in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans 5. I love those Saints and I bleed purple and gold.
