Teaching students to find the central idea of an article is never easy. This fun scavenger hunt takes them through the steps in an easy 1-2-3 process. Attached to this DL you will also receive two note sheets. One has blanks for students to fill in and the other includes all relevant information. The activity can be done with partners, groups or individual. It can be used for any nonfiction article or any reading that has a clear main idea. Great PARCC prep as well.

A great tool to prep student for a middle school literary analysis project. Students can use the slides to brainstorm elements from their stories/books. Students can create a slideshow (one per reading) to submit OR use this to as a prewrite before a traditional comparitive essay or analysis.

Use this graphic organizer for your students when they are reading any fiction novel. It has them fill in literary devices that they notice their authors making and track if they find the strategy to be effective. It is a great launching point for a short story unit. This is my favorite test prep activity and has never failed me. Students take on the role of lawyers and in groups, receive confidential folders with "clients" who are either guilty or not guilty of bad writing.
