This "whodunnit" activity is very engaging. It's a win-win as students love trying to put themselves in the shoes of an investigator and you're able to assess their understanding of material in a fun way!

Id, Ego, Superego Activity
This activity can be used in a criminology unit for Criminal Justice or in Psychology classes. My students completed this activity after learning about Sigmund Freud's theory on the three parts of the personality: id, ego, & superego. This activity asks them to finish scenarios based on the principles of the three parts. They had a lot of fun and it was a great way to reinforce a new concept in a short amount of time!

Criminal Profiling!
With all of the crime dramas on TV nowadays, more students have taken an interest in how psychological profiling is conducted in real life crimes. Well, this isn't a true crime scenario, but it is a fun activity to get students to think like detectives! Create Your Own ADMAX Prison
This activity was created for Criminal Justice students who have learned about the differences between local jails, state prisons, and federal supermax prisons. Prior to this activity I typically show documentaries on Alcatraz and Eastern State Penitentiary. However, that's completely up to you! Students have consistently been very engaged in this activity that typically takes two 45-minute class periods, or one blocked period for those on a blocked schedule.

Prison Warden Activity!
This activity was designed for high school Criminal Justice classes. Students are to put themselves in the shoes of prison wardens in order to gain a better understanding of the financial decisions and problems that wardens may have to make. My students got really into it and even my most quiet ones were engaged in the discussion to share how they would allocate their spendings if they were running a prison.

This worksheets helps students break down the rights guaranteed within the amendments related to due process. APUSH Assembly Line Review Game
This review game was made for Period 7 either at the end of the unit or preparing for the AP exam in May. It's super fun and gets the students to think quick on their feet! The directions for the game are on the second slide. Limited color was used on the pages that contain the questions as to not overload your school printer and copy machine!

Dual Court System Project
This project requires students to create a poster of the setup of the dual court system in the United States. All of my students chose to make side-by-side flow charts, though I left this up to them to decide (they all decided it was the easiest way, so you could suggest/require this as well). The scoring guide is included with the instructions. I teach in 86 minute blocks and gave my students 1.5 blocks to complete the project.

APUSH Unit 3 Debate!
This debate is a FANTASTIC way for students to analyze the various view points of the American Revolution. This is a group activity for APUSH students. I would suggest creating the groups so there are as even number of students in the groups as possible, but then allow the students to pick their own roles within the group.

This PowerPoint contains 20 original APUSH warm-up questions for Unit 2. The majority of the questions come from ideas in the key concept outline, though there are some questions that I included based on information that many teachers may cover in this unit (for example, one question is on Jamestown and another is on Bacon's Rebellion). Experience
I have been teaching high school social studies since 2013. I have taught Introduction to American Criminal Justice, Honors and Standard (also known as CP, depending on your state) U.S. History 1877-Present, and AP U.S. History.
Teaching style
I strive to be extremely engaging. Even when I am lecturing and my students are taking notes, I am constantly asking questions and for their opinions. I know that history is not everyone's favorite subject, but my goal is that they still enjoy coming to my class and learn something new every day! I'm not afraid to do something physical in order to make a point or get across a concept (i.e. jumping on top of an empty desk to reenact a speech). That being said, I'm very structured in my lessons. My students are introduced to the class routine from the first day of school and it continues up until the day of their final.

I had two students reach the state level of the National History Day competition during my first year of teaching. I was awarded Teacher of the Month in March 2017. I was my school's Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 SY.
