Comparing School in America with School in a Spanish Speaking Country

This relates to the culture theme present in many Spanish 1 courses regarding school in America vs school in a Spanish speaking country. This asks students to choose a Spanish speaking country and compare some basic facts like school ages, number of years, modes of transit, classes taken, clothing worn - in Spanish. Then there is a reflection question in English. This could be used as sub plans, but I find that my students need some guidance (especially on what constitutes a Spanish speaking

In many schools, teachers are required to submit several emergency sub plans - allowing department chairs to easily pull an activity if there isn't anything ready. These are mine for Spanish 4/AP. Each one has questions and then asks students to form an opinion based on their research - all could be used as pre-work for in-class debates. There are 4 plans: 1 - Puerto Rico and its Legal Status - guides students through questions and then asks them to create a position on PR's relationship with

Vacation Planning Activity - Travel and Weather - Spanish / Distance Learning

This asks your students to plan a day of sightseeing in a Spanish-Speaking city of their choice - however, there are factors beyond their control to consider - the first letters of their first and last name and the month they were born will dictate the weather, an activity that they MUST include, and a complication they're having on their trip. For example - My initials are K.L. and I was born in March - so the guide tells me that the weather on my trip is VERY hot, I have to include a water re

This is a task that asks students (in pairs) to examine a French language children's story (I have a collection of them in my classroom) using the passé composé and imparfait. If you do not have children's books available, you could find (or have them find) commonly available stories/fairy tales to work with. It's written as a project with a rubric, but how you use it is up to you!

This is a task that asks students (in groups of 2-3) to examine a movie they know well using the passé composé and imparfait. It's written in great detail so that it can be left as sub plans, but you could also do it during class time. In order for students to have unique movies, I've had them pick them and tell me what movie - but I have found that there are very rarely (if ever) duplicates when I don't take the extra step.

In the second part, they swap travel brochures with a classmate and then follow a guide to write about one day of their vacation based on the activities in the brochure and some complicating factors like budget or weather conditions.
