A great resource to help students identify place value. This has been so helpful for my 5th graders. I also included expanded and word form to the resource page. You can laminate or place in a sheet protector and they can follow along during guided practice. I gave students different numbers verbally and had them fill in the blanks during intervention/guided math.

This RI 5.2 Pre/Post assessment was designed using a CCSS Text Exemplar. The standard has been unwrapped and each component is addressed in the assessment. You may choose to assess Main Idea and then follow up with the rest of the test (summarizing) which will assess the rest of the standard. Included is the answer key and a scoring guide.

This RL 5.1 assessment was constructed using a CCSS poem exemplar. I have included an answer key as well. I used it as my pre and post assessment. This also served as a great intro to complex poetry. This was a great lead into poetry close reading as well.

I wish I would have found something like this when I attempted to implement Close Reading in the classroom over a year ago! I have created a graphic organizer that will guide you through the multiple reads. I use this graphic organizer for various content areas:-) I have also made bookmarks that include the annotation symbols/markings that students are to use during Close Reading. I have also included a sheet with possible guiding questions for each read.

This is a 2-sided foldable that is aligned to standard RL 5.2 The download also includes a Teacher's Note that describes the different components of the foldable as well as how to complete it. An added bonus: the completed classroom set would make an awesome bulletin board display!

Here's a great way to motivate students to pick up a book and read! The Book Buzz foldable is a great supplemental piece to Lucy Calkins Reading Unit Grades 3-5. Have the students create a Book Buzz after reading a book by writing an excerpt, a summary and sharing their thoughts about the book. Better yet, have them rate the book from 1 to 5 stars. This will encourage others to check out the book that someone was buzzing about! :-)
