I use these task cards as students are working with place value activities in small groups. These depth and complexity questions have students thinking about place value like they never have before, including how it's changed over time and place value's importance in our daily lives.

Students compete in battleship using whole and decimal place values.

This project gives students real world scenarios on budgeting and following specific directions. Students will be adding money to find costs of ingredients to make different Thanksgiving dishes and determining how they can stay within a given budget.

In this project, students will be researching data to determine how many movies were made from 2020 to 2024. Students will be inferencing external factors that could have caused the changes in the number of movie releases each year (such as covid). Students will also create a pictograph and bar graph to represent their data.

Students will be practicing converting improper fractions to mixed numbers while practicing reading recipes. This reaches across disciplines because students are practicing with procedural texts as well as applying math. Students will also be answering depth and complexity questions using the recipe.

This project is for second grade or higher level first grade. It involves looking through toy ads, looking at items they wish to purchase, calculating what coin values they could use to build the price and even generating their own one-step word problems for these items.

Students will research the amount of gold medals won by 5 different countries in the 2024 Olympics. Students will create a labeled bar graph with the data and then write an addition word problem and subtraction word problem to match their graph data.

Students will practice using traits and characteristics of 2D and 3D shapes by giving clues for students to identify a shape. The trick is, they cannot use the words on the cards for that given shape! They have to come up with other clues to help students identify the shape!

This menu allows students to have the power of choice while digging deeper into 2D and 3D shape attributes and their uses in the real world.

Students will be creating a business and having to solve multi-step problems when creating it.

Students will use these questions to dig deeper into shape attributes.

Students will read through different real world scenarios. As they are solving the problems, students will have to add or subtract fractions and draw models to represent the fractions.

Students will create a business, product, and advertising. They will plan how they will make a profit and stay within budget.

This math exemplar has students applying word problem solving skills to real life examples. It also has them explaining the solving concept as a teacher.

These multi-step task cards include numbers into the thousands for students to complete.
