Time Out Zone: Alaska, A Place To Chill Out

I teach upper elementary and they laugh when I mention "time out" or "think time" so I came across something that seemed amazing. ALASKA! Name your corner, desk, chair, or just spot where you need to send your students to just COOL off or CHILL OUT for a minute or two. I use my Alaska after I have given students a verbal warning I then will send them back to the "Alaska Desk" and have them think about their actions and why they were sent here. Teaching style

I love to keep up with the latest research in reading interventions and instruction. Finding the perfect recipe for a struggling reader is a challenge that I enjoy. I learn from each student that I work with and am continuously adding new strategies and ideas to my toolbox. I also enjoy helping my co-workers find new ways to address reading difficulties in their classrooms. I have designed lots of games for my students to keep them active and engaged! I follow the Science of Reading Approach to Literacy as well as some of the Orton Gillingham Approach. I love using multisensory techniques when working with children and helping them grasp the skills needed to be successful readers!
