Why Use Math Journals? While students learn how to "do" math, they must also learn how to articulate what they are learning. It is important to provide many opportunities for students to organize and record their work without the structure of a worksheet. Math journals support students' learning because, in order to get their ideas on paper, children must organize, clarify, and reflect on their thinking. Initially many students will need support and encouragement in order to communicate their id

Fraction Task Cards--MONSTER THEMED

I LOVE TASK CARDS! These cards are great for a fun game of scoot, for early finishers, or for exit, entry tickets. They can be also used as great review. These task cards focus on comparing fractions and mixed numbers and also has a focus on equivalent fractions. All questions are SOL based and are great test-prep. Print and laminate these cards for students to use over and over again. The cute monsters add some fun, who doesn't love a cute monster!? 20 cards included.

Polygon Math Journal Notes

I love having a Math journal for students to use as an available resource. I use notes like these to help students follow along during the lesson. We glue the notes on the left side of the journal and practice problems on the right side of the journal. This strategy teaches students comprehension of vocabulary and also self-teaching. Also, notes like these really come in handy when it is review time!

Teaching style

I love to keep up with the latest research in reading interventions and instruction. Finding the perfect recipe for a struggling reader is a challenge that I enjoy. I learn from each student that I work with and am continuously adding new strategies and ideas to my toolbox. I also enjoy helping my co-workers find new ways to address reading difficulties in their classrooms. I have designed lots of games for my students to keep them active and engaged! I follow the Science of Reading Approach to Literacy as well as some of the Orton Gillingham Approach. I love using multisensory techniques when working with children and helping them grasp the skills needed to be successful readers!
