About the store
I taught Math my first year (00-01) and have been teaching 7th Grade Science ever since... and I absolutely love it! Our school is currently aligning our lessons to the new NGSS curriculum! I love the 5E approach as well as presenting lessons that are 3 dimensional. I am a former ASB advisor and a former Tech Coordinator. I have attended many conferences and workshops with the intention of looking for better and more interesting lessons. I have completed two years of character education training and was a coach/mentor for the teachers at my school that were going through their first year of character education training. I am working on becoming a Google Certified Teacher.

Light, Lenses, and Mirrors Lab with Key

I love this lab!! It covers just about everything that a 7th grader from California needs to know about light. This is a five page lab that usually takes 2-3 days to complete. You may have to change some information, such as page numbers, or diagrams to match your textbook and what you teach, but it will give you a great place to start! Enjoy! This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 6 - Physical principles underlie biological structures and functions.

Use this lab to introduce the proper procedures for finding the volume of various objects using a graduated cylinder or a metric ruler. You will have to go shopping to get some supplies or ask parents to donate the supplies that you will need for this lab. Use my PowerPoint to help teach how to read graduated cylinder. There are Points to Ponder questions at the end of this lab. This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7A - Select and use appropriate tools and technol

This lab introduces the procedures for using a Triple Beam Balance. It's a good lab that covers the three different ways of finding the mass of a substance. It also contains Analysis and Conclusion questions at the end of the lab. Take a look at my PowerPoint on how to use and read a Triple Beam Balance. It will help out a lot!! This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7A - Select and use appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, sp

This is a fun classroom lab on measuring using the metric system. The student need to convert the units of measurement also so it's a good reinforcement tool or an assessment to see what they have learned. This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7A - Select and use appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, spring scales, microscopes, and binoculars) to perform tests, collect data, and display data.

This is a great lab if you are introducing the topic of metric measurement using a metric ruler (they measure the distance of their shot) or to reward the students who have the concept of metric measurement down. The students love it!! The battlefield is provided in this document... just make sure you provide goggles for this one :)

Scientific Inquiry Penny Lab Day 1

This lab is designed to introduce students to the topic of Scientific Inquiry. Students predict how many drops of water will fit on a penny. I walk around the room to make sure everybody is doing the exact same thing because the one variable that is different is the year of the penny. Everything else should be the same! It's simple but the students love this lab. This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7 - Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions an

I use this PowerPoint to introduce the basic properties of light. It follows the Prentice Hall textbook that we use but the PowerPoint could be used as a stand alone tool. The students fill out the 'Light' notes paper as I go and I also ask for volunteers to demonstrate some of the properties of light. Take a look at the 'Light' notes handout also. This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 6 - Physical principles underlie biological structures and functions.

This is a simple lab, but it has a lot of parts to it, like measuring the outside of your Science building. You might have to alter that part of the assignment to fit your needs. You will also need to copy and paste a map of your school grounds for the last section of the lab. It's a good lab that also involves doing conversions between the different measurements: decimeters to millimeters, etc. Take a look at my PowerPoint on using the Metric Ruler and Meter Stick to help with this lab. Experience

I taught Math my first year (00-01) and have been teaching 7th Grade Science ever since... and I absolutely love it! Our school is currently aligning our lessons to the new NGSS curriculum! Teaching style

I really like the NGSS 5E approach (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate). I like presenting a phenomenon and then let the students explore. I also like that they get to figure things out first before I have to guide and explain. I am comfortable with a loud class as long as the noise stems from cooperative group work and collaboration.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was teacher of the year for the 1516 school year... but my real reward is having my students come back and tell me how much my class has helped them in High School! : )

My own education history

I received my BS in Biology at UNR (University of Nevada - Reno) and I received my Teaching Credential at CSUF (Cal State Univ - Fullerton)

Additional biographical information

I originally wanted to be a veterinarian but found out through tutoring Biology and Chemistry at UNR that I really enjoyed working with the other students instead!! Teaching is definitely my calling!!
