I have been teaching sixth grade science in central Ohio for 8 years. I have also taught and tutored sixth and seventh grade math. Additionally, I have experience with many different types of technology and have taught many classes for colleagues on Smart Board integration, Classroom Performance Systems and web-site creation.
This file contains a Powerpoint presentation covering the topics of matter, atoms, substances, compounds, elements, mixtures and solutions. Additionally, the file contains a guided notes worksheet that students can fill-in while the material is being presented from Powerpoint. The guided notes allow students to spend time listening and participating in class versus getting bogged down with copying notes. Additionally, these guided notes make a great study tool once they are filled-in.
Changes in Matter...A Video Project gives students the opportunity to display their knowledge of the three states of matter and the phase changes of matter by creating a short video for their classmates to view. The project packet includes project guidelines, peer evaluation sheets and a rubric. This video project is fully editable and could be adapted to many different content areas.
The Properties of Matter Board Game is a culminating project for a unit on the different types and properties of matter. Students work in small groups to create a board game that will review matter vocabulary while also challenging their peers with application questions. Once board games are complete, student groups will then play and evaluate another group's board game. Project guidelines, a peer feedback form and a rubric are all included. This crossword puzzle is a vocabulary review of words related to the properties of matter as well as the different types of matter. The puzzle is a word document, so it is editable if necessary.
Study Island can be confusing for students to keep up with. This sheet gives students a way to keep track of their information, track assignments as well as thorough directions to follow.This is a great way for students to keep track of their Study Island assignments. This tracker includes dates that can easily be changed as needed.

I have a passion for integrating math and science in a hands-on way. I believe that students need to learn in many different ways and I try to differentiate content and skills as much as possible.
