Objective: Blending words by onset and rime; develop an understanding that words are made of sound chunks
Directions:
The onset is the consonant, digraph, or blend that comes before the rime. The rime is the vowel and chunk following.
Explain that we will practice separating the parts of each word.
Show each slide and ask students to name the picture.
Repeat the name of the picture by segmenting the onset and the rime. Example – b – utton.

The objective of this activity is to identify the number of syllables in a word. Students will label the picture, clap out the syllables, and identify the number of syllables in each word. Teacher may click on the power point slide and children can watch the correct number spin into view!
