Ark of the Covenant Gold - Math Activity

This is a fun math activity that I have used for several years in grades 6—8. It references the description from the Bible to calculate the amount of gold used to cover the Ark of the Covenant. Once the students determine the amount of gold used, they can calculate the value of the gold using the current price. The students discover that the value of the gold exceeds a staggering ten million dollars! The math concepts used in this activity are measurement conversions, the calculations of surfac

The Rubber Band Race Car Project

• The race car project is a fun way to teach students about time, distance, and speed. It can also help them understand traction. • It will take roughly 3 to 4 forty minute class periods. This can be shortened if the students build their cars at home. • In building the cars, it is important that students only use the materials listed for this project. This assures that everyone has an equal advantage. • I provide cardboard, soda straws, craft sticks, rubber bands, and hot glue gun. Students must

Super Simple & FUN Checking Accounts

A simple and fun way to teach students how to manage a checking account. This booklet comes with complete instructions on implementing my very simple, no-fuss system. The streamlined method I devised creates very little extra work for the teacher/banker. Includes masters for checks, checkbook covers, balance record, deposit slips, and a poster that illustrates how to write a check. FYI: this project works great with my math buck learning incentive which is FREE to download.

This game should help them overcome math phobia and introduce them to how fractions and percents are calculated. First, each student makes a rubber band ray zapper. Follow the simple directions for gluing, cutting, folding, and taping. Page 3 has the step-by-step instructions. Page 4 has the cut-o

Teaching style

Teaching math can be an adventure; it's a process of leading students to discover ways to quantify, calculate, measure, and understand. My method is to incorporate fun math projects into the middle school curriculum - projects that are based on adventure themes. They stimulate curiosity and keep the students engaged.
