If you are teaching an Entrepreneurship class or trying to replicate Shark Tank, here is a planning sheet students can use to generate ideas. There is a suggested number marks for each stage of planning.
This is a hands-on, lengthy project for students interested in business, cosmetology, or marketing/advertising. Students work their way through the checklist to complete a number of requirements while creating their website. Each requirement comes with a suggested number of marks students can receive after completion. There is a second component after the website is built where students are asked to create a detailed floor plan, and a logo.
This major assignment will have your class re-creating a new product in the beauty industry. Students will spend time researching the ingredients that go into their favorite beauty product, finding more natural ingredients, creating a logo and name for their new product and then actually creating the product for the class to sample. If you would like an editable version, please let me know!
This project provides students with some freedom/flexibility in choosing an area in the beauty industry that interests them. They are then asked to create a detailed poster that can be hung in your classroom for others to learn from! There is some background research required so computers will be beneficial. A rubric is also included in this download.
This project will allow your students to design a full set of nails and create a tutorial video explaining each step in detail. The project includes a rubric at the end so there is no work for you except to print! I would suspect this project would span 2-3 weeks if you taught Cosmetology 2 times a week. If you would like an editable version of this, please let me know!
Use this assignment to supplement your gardening class by having students plan how they would spend $1000 to design a garden for your school! They must create a list of supplies to include the website, cost and quantity and then answer questions after. Once they are done, you can have them compile their information into PowerPoint or Slides to share with the class.
Do you have to teach a new option class this year and don't know what to do?! This has been my most popular class among Jr High students (could be done in High School as well). If you grew up watching the Food Network you might remember the show Restaurant Wars? This class is designed around that idea - students working in small groups to compete against their classmates by trying to make the most money. They must create a menu, and cook all the food they are going to sell. Students will also le
If you are looking for a fun, engaging project that can be done in Foods class or ELA look no further. Have students complete a Character Sketch of Julia Child by watching the movie Julie and Julia (make sure you preview it before you show the film in class to make sure it's appropriate for your age group). Students will be asked to create a visual representation along with a write-up. If you wanted to change the individual of the Character Sketch let me know and I will share an editable Google

If you are looking for a student led activity learning about the differences between composting, recycling and garbage look no further! Students are tasked with 4 different challenges that allow them to explore and then educate others about what they learned. They have 2 visual products to create, an interactive game they will play with others, and attempt to choose the best location for compost bins around their school. I have included a grading scheme at the end of each challenge you can use i
Teach your students to build a standout resume by downloading this informative handout! Students can use this to ensure they have appropriate information when building their first resume. The handout includes things they MUST have, and things they SHOULD have, and helpful hints to make their resume stand out. I also provide a teacher assessment at the bottom to ensure students are handing in their best work. I use this resource in my "resume creation" class, and in Language Arts. It usually take
Have you been thinking about offering a course on Gardening, but didn't know where or how to start? Look no further! These activities could be done over a longer period of time, or pick them apart and include them in other classes! You will receive a course outline that includes 4 "rotations" of different activities with detailed instructions and expectation

This assignment has been a HIT with my grade 8 students. It allows them to highlight their culture in a way that is meaningful to them, with lots of flexibility and creativity. On presentation day I set up my classroom in the shape of a half moon, with half of the class behind the desks doing their presentations, while the other students rotate every 2 minutes stopping at a new person. I have included a rubric you could use if you wanted, or omit. You could do this in Language Arts, Social Studi

If you're looking for an exploratory assignment for students to complete about BEES, look no further! Students are assigned to a specific bee related topic and then need to make a 2 minute presentation to share with the other groups in the class. The idea behind the 2 minutes is all students will eventually rotate between groups to learn about ALL of the topics listed. There is a lot of freedom for students to be creative and engaging. Rubric is also included! If you would like a digital version
Are you teaching Foods this year and don't know where to start? Maybe you're looking for fresh ideas? Either way, this outline is for you. If you would like an editable version for your school's calendar, or to add your own flare, let me know and I will send you one.
This public speaking project could be done in Language Arts or Social Studies. Students are asked to give a two-minute presentation about a country of their choice - convincing us to travel there! This download can be taught as an option class, broken down into individual/smaller assignments, or completed within an ELA or Social Studies Unit. If you have time I would repeat the requirements for assignment #2 in assignment #3. Research is will be necessary so make sure you have access to computers!
