This checklist was a great way to keep the students on task throughout the unit (see Blossoming Haikus Unit Plan)! It helped make them aware of the Six Traits and how they pertain to Haikus. The students also knew exactly what I was looking for when I graded them (see Haiku Six Traits of Writing Rubric). The Six Traits were also embedded into the steps of the writing process. This unit plan is comprised of 4 detailed lessons. Blossoming Haikus Unit Plan is a writing unit with a Japanese culture theme.
