About the store

Experience

I gained a teaching certificate from the University of Western Ontario, entered the teaching profession, set up the geography department at a new high school and remained active in curriculum writing. In the course of my career I taught Geography, Environmental Education, English, History, and Entrepreneurial Studies, in addition to writing curriculum for Fashion Arts, Marketing, Life Skills, and Family Studies.

Teaching style

I believe in making subjects relevant. If you believe, as I do, that students learn best by doing and that subjects should be taught by teachers passionate about what they are doing, then you'll welcome my ideas.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Because of my involvement in curriculum development I was chosen to represented local geographers on a mining tour sponsored by the Ontario Mining Association.

My own education history

I gained an honors degree in Geography from the University of Waterloo and later took masters course work at the University of Windsor including the publication of 'Dial-A-Bus: A Feasibility Study'.

Additional biographical information

I'm married and live in Windsor. I retired after having taught high school geography for 31 years, including serving as head of department and writing on curriculum committees. I'm a published writer and since 1989 a small business owner. When not writing or managing my business, I spend time at my other passions: dogs, genealogy, sailboat racing, reading, watching movies, following ice hockey and baseball, preparing and eating good food, tasting new wines, listening to jazz, and gardening. Recent illnesses within my immediate family- cancer, Crohn's- have educated me on the importance of advocacy, care-giving, and the management of one's own health and environment.
