I am currently now a department chair and wanted to share lessons that worked for me in the classroom and also wanted to create new lessons that meet the needs of a wide variety of students after seeing dozens of effective teachers throughout my tenure as a site leader.

Modified FSA Rubric
This is a modified version of the FSA writing rubric in which the "Evidence" and "Commentary sections are split up. This allows students to see what goes into providing well-written commentary and evidence. I often use this as a peer grading task in which we look at everything aspect of a paper separately.

Teaching style
I firmly believe that teachers should be the expert facilitator in the room while the students should take part in the heavy, mental lifting. Giving them great resources to engage with and having a motivated, knowledgeable leader in the room is the key to success!
