With experience teaching every subject imaginable in grades 1st through 12th, private and public schools, I am beginning my 33rd year in the classroom. I have been involved in many county and state leveled committees, worked on developing curriculum and assessments, presented at state level conferences, and many other aspects of the teaching profession. I have worked with academically advanced as well as academically challenged students and know that all students can learn.
I use this to help students track their learning by recording daily scores and then graphing them. It could be used with any daily computer or workbook program. I put it in their center folder and it keeps a great running record and visual record of their progress. We have a big emphasis on students becoming responsible for their learning and this tool helps them see how they really are doing. We have discussions from time to time and the student explains what they see on the graph to me.

Here are 5 word problems with prompts for the student to create a written response. When I started I was trying to do one response per day at a 20 minute center. This created an awful lots of grading for me as I teach 3 math classes. I later assigned between 1 and 3 responses per week depending on ability level, created a rubrics, and had them self evaluate and buddy evaluate. This year I will be putting the question in a plastic sleeve and they will respond on notebook paper in their center

Teaching style
Just like the tortoise that beat the hare, with continual effort and a positive attitude, every child can be successful. Over the years I have found that a good teacher is flexible and modifies what she does to meet the needs of the students. At present, I am teaching 3rd grade math using small group and centers with much success.
