This is the Quiz I used following my 2 week study of figurative language in my 5th grade classroom. Most of the quiz contains examples used in my original study, figurative language practice 1-3. An answer key is included.

I use these sheets as a guide as the kids watch the TLC production of "The Revolutionary War" hosted by Charles Kuralt. The sheets help the kids to stay focused during the presentation and make them responsible for the information within. Has worked really well over the years.

I used this with my 5th graders as a review of important people and events in the Revolutionary War. My kids really enjoy the paper copy. Gives them time to discuss possible answers with their partners. Great activity.

I used these sheets in introducing types of sentences to my 5th graders. Once again I would allow the kids to partner up in order to allow them to discuss the writing and come to an agreement with their partner. Some of the sentences could be another type depending on the punctuation mark used or the way in which it is said. These made for some lively discussions.

I used these pages in introducing descriptive writing to my 5th graders. I called it "Show Writing." I introduced the concept and went over the ides of showing not telling. The practice and prompts were generated to give them real situations they were hopefully familiar with. The checklist was generated to encourage them to proofread their writing when done and be to evaluate and identify the elements within their own writing.
