American Symbols Book Fact and Opinion

We love the USA!! This is an American Symbols Booklet to be used for facts and opinions. It could be used for center work, extension, or a social studies unit of study. Students should already have a good knowledge of American symbols before starting this booklet or it could be used alongside text which teaches students about each symbol. Symbols include the American flag, Uncle Sam, the Bald Eagle, the Liberty Bell, and the Statue of Liberty. Great for 4th of July, Veteran's Day, Memorial

About the store

Experience

I have taught for over 17 years and at many different grade levels, but my expertise is 1st-2nd. I love science and technology!! In the past, I worked for 15 summers at Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. While there, I worked with students, but mainly I taught and created curriculum for teachers in the area of space.

Teaching style

I believe my teaching style is a mix of direct instruction and hands-on with a heavy use of technology. I prefer to teach through thematic hands-on units, but am required to teach through whole group, small group, and remediation. I do find creative ways to incorporate both technology and thematic units though! My classroom is active and engaging. I love to use ClassDojo and GoNoodle for behavior management.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have served on a number of committees selected by my principals. I recently served on a District Math Committee to review and reconfigure a math pacing guide and to implement Junyo at the school level. I was chosen to attend the National Conference for Differentiation in Las Vegas this summer. I was chosen as a representative for the Advanced Space Camp educators to Kennedy Space Center. I represented Huntsville City Schools on a Zero-G weightless flight. I was chosen as Outstanding Young Alumnae for the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Delta Zeta.

My own education history

I attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville from 1992-1997, graduating with a BA in Elementary Education. While pursuing my degree in Elementary Education, I worked as a student intern at the HASP program (hands-on science program) for 4 years.

Additional biographical information

I love all types of animals and have 2 cats and a dog. My husband and I love to travel, listen to live music, and camp. We visit Asheville, North Carolina at least once a year. I personally love Disney World!
