About the store

Experience

I have taught for over 17 years and at many different grade levels, but my expertise is 1st-2nd. I love science and technology!! In the past, I worked for 15 summers at Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. While there, I worked with students, but mainly I taught and created curriculum for teachers in the area of space.

Teaching style

I believe my teaching style is a mix of direct instruction and hands-on with a heavy use of technology. I prefer to teach through thematic hands-on units, but am required to teach through whole group, small group, and remediation. I do find creative ways to incorporate both technology and thematic units though! My classroom is active and engaging. I love to use ClassDojo and GoNoodle for behavior management.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have served on a number of committees selected by my principals. I recently served on a District Math Committee to review and reconfigure a math pacing guide and to implement Junyo at the school level. I was chosen to attend the National Conference for Differentiation in Las Vegas this summer. I was chosen as a representative for the Advanced Space Camp educators to Kennedy Space Center. I represented Huntsville City Schools on a Zero-G weightless flight. I was chosen as Outstanding Young Alumnae for the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Delta Zeta.

My own education history

I attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville from 1992-1997, graduating with a BA in Elementary Education. While pursuing my degree in Elementary Education, I worked as a student intern at the HASP program (hands-on science program) for 4 years.

Additional biographical information

I love all types of animals and have 2 cats and a dog. My husband and I love to travel, listen to live music, and camp. We visit Asheville, North Carolina at least once a year. I personally love Disney World!
