This rubric allows students and teachers to assess spelling skills within the context of writing samples. Many teachers are using word study in some form for phonics instruction. Assessing spelling skills within individual writing samples allows teachers to know if students are able to generalize the word study skill into independent practice.

Progress monitoring tool for assessing students' ability to recognize high frequency words. This file contains a teacher record to be copied for each student and lists of 220 Dolch words sorted by frequency. I copy the lists on cardstock, slip them into clear protective sleeves, and place them in a 3-ring binder. I hope this Dolch assessment saves you time. I assess my students periodically throughout the year so they can see the progress they are making in this area. It also helps students foc
