Compare and Contrast Same Topic Texts Essential Questions & How-To Posters
At first, I struggled with how to teach 2.RI.9: Compare/contrast same- topic texts. Then I came up with the idea of looking for common points and annotating the texts to make the common points stand out. Included are these anchor charts/posters: vocabulary posters (common points, same topic texts, annotate), 4 steps for How-to C/C two same-topic texts, and 4 essential question posters.

Folktale Retelling and Sequencing Lessons
Lesson plan included for practice retelling a story according to what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. The 'Beginning, Middle, End' anchor charts, writing template, and activity ideas can be used with any story and are also very helpful for when students are learning to recount their own narratives in writing.

Prefix and Base Word Activity to Determine Word Meanings
This activity includes 5 prefix cards and 5 base word cards for students to cut out and manipulate on a "Prefix + Base Word = Word Meaning" template mat. It includes instructions for how to do the activity, and an assessment for after the activity. I used it for my formal observation. The students were successfully able to determine the meaning of words with prefixes after this lesson. The prefix posters I used for this lesson are a "Freebie" on my TpT page.

About the store
Experience
This is my 16th year of teaching. I've taught in rural South Carolina, on an Indian Reservation in Arizona, and in a primarily Spanish speaking public school in the downtown Phoenix area.
Teaching style
I love planning lessons AND teaching them! It's a tough job and we're grossly underpaid, but every day I pray that my classroom will be a place that BOTH my students and I enjoy being in, and after 16 years it still is (thankfully!). In my classroom, I have a wall for reading, grammar, writing and math. Each wall includes vocabulary posters, anchor charts, daily objectives, and sentence frames to guide student discussion and assist them in using their academic vocabulary. I change my walls for every standard. My team and I strive to keep students actively engaged by planning a variety of lesson activities that require students to demonstrate their understanding often (real-time assessments) and discuss their learning often (partner/group sharing). I intend to upload tons of stuff, including all of my posters and activities. Please check back frequently!

While teaching in a multi-grade classroom on an Indian Reservation in Arizona, I was awarded the Governor's Special Recognition Award for teaching in 2007 and 2008, the Governor's Recognition of Excellence Award in 2009, and the Best Teacher Award in 2010.

I'm from the east coast, but fell in love with the southwest and relocated here 12 years ago. I love to hike, camp, create things for my classroom, spend time with my nieces and nephews, and play with my four dogs.
