Physical Science-Rube Goldberg Project

This project is suitable for Pre-AP Physical Science classes as well as upper level Physics courses in high school (Grades 9-12). If planning to use this project for grades below 9th grade, it might be best if a majority of the students involved have completed Algebra 1. The project will not only meet any number of your state science standards but also meet Next Generation Science Standards HS-PS2-1 and HS-PS3-3 and others. The project is designed to be done by the students (groups of 2-3 stu

Worksheet: Calculating Distance = Speed x Time

A common formula encountered in physical science and even physics classrooms is the Distance = Speed x Time formula. This extensive worksheet [with ANSWER KEY] uses this common formula in many scenarios from calculating how far away a lightning strike was to how long it will take radio signals to travel from Earth to Mars. I've used these problems in my own classes and slowly accumulated them over the years. I think a teacher can use any portion or all of these problems depending on the abil

Calculating Newton's 2nd Law of Motion - Force = Mass x Acceleration

This assignment (worksheet) is to provide practice for students solving for the variables that make up Newton's 2nd Law formula (F = M x A). One of the problems contained within this assignment is a series of calculations in which students use a set of data [provided] and solve for the FORCE required. Students are then to graph the results produced from this series of calculations showing the relationship between the three variables of this formula.

Calculating Wavelength and Frequency - Worksheet

This assignment is intended to be used after students have learned wave structure and become acquainted with the concepts of wave velocities (i.e. sound and EM Waves). Depending on the grade level of the students, it might be necessary to instruct them on how to enter scientific notation into classroom calculators. (Using Scientific Notation on the TI-84 Plus and TI-30XIIS calculators). The problems presented in the assignment provide practice manipulating the variables in the formula.

Power and Work Calculations-Worksheet

This assignment is intended to be used as a follow up assignment for students who have learned about "work" (W = F x D) as used in physics. The problems included on this assignment incorporate that formula with the concept of POWER with the formula (Work = Power x Time). Most of this worksheet requires students to apply both formulas in solving the problems.
Preview of Calculating Electrical Power

Calculating Electrical Power

This assignment is intended to be used following the introduction of Ohm's Law. The problems contained within this assignment provide practice for students to become acquainted with the variables associated with the formula... Power = Current x Voltage

Extra Credit/Substitute Survival Packet (Physical Science)

This bundle is for those situations that teachers never want to deal with but do occasionally happen... A. For those students who, for whatever reason, reach a point in the school year and decide their grade is not where it needs to be. The student then decides to come to the teacher asking for EXTRA CREDIT to raise their grade. Rest assured, that if you hand this packet to that student they will either get a thorough review of the fundamental math concepts associated with physical science or
Preview of Electrical Transformer Calculations

Electrical Transformer Calculations

This assignment is intended to be used near the end of a unit of study on electricity after students have learned about current, voltage, power and resistance. The problems contained within this assignment/assessment task student to determine the voltage or windings (loops) needed in an electrical transformer.

Ohm's Law Calculations

This assignment is meant to be given to students once they have learned the definitions of voltage, current and electrical resistance. The problems contained within this assignment are simple calculations using Ohm's Law (V = I x R).
Preview of Kinetic Energy Worksheet

Kinetic Energy Worksheet

This worksheet is intended to give students the opportunity to calculate Kinetic Energy from various real world scenarios. Then the worksheet transitions to having the students do a series of calculations (series 1: changing mass vs kinetic energy; series 2: changing velocity vs kinetic energy) and graph each. Lastly the students are required to provide a written analysis of the two graphs. This worksheet has been used quite successfully in my classes for a while and it will surely help your st
Preview of Calculating Work = Force x Displacement

Calculating Work = Force x Displacement

This is a short assignment designed to give students to see quantitively what is meant by the term "work" as it relates to physics. It is based on the formula Work = Force x Displacement. This assignment is designed for grades 7 - 9 before students have taken trigonometry. The problems included do NOT account for objects moving at an angle to the direction the force is being applied.
