This is a set of quizzes for each of the ten chapters based around simple recall and assuring the students are reading the book, Anthem by Ayn Rand.
I felt the need for this because my students just don't read unless they are being graded on doing so. These reading checks make an easy way to evaluate if students have actually read the assigned pages.

This is a 41 page packet, and includes questions for each chapter in the book. I basically got tired of buying these online packets from major retailers, and then having my students just go online and find the answers. The only answer, to me, was to write all my own content. So, here it is! Inside, there's 250+ questions. About 10 questions per chapter. I tried to include some obscure content that you'd have to be reading closely to find and for which is pretty time-intensive to really get at.

The Greek Drama Lesson gives information on theatrical conventions of ancient Greek drama. It uses simple language to introduce new concepts, such as the chorus, parts of a Greek drama, stagecraft and the classical Greek theater. It is a great introduction before reading "Oedipus" or "Antigone", but can also be used before " The Odyssey" or other canonical texts of Greek Mythology involving Greek Gods. This is the one with conventional (yellow/brown) aesthetics. ____________________________

Kids like learning the roots and have fun putting together words that they find applicable in their science, math and history classes. CONTENTS:-"Fly Swatter Ga

The Olympic Games are a popular event to spectate, and a great avenue for students to access the world of Ancient Greece. Kids who participate in sports will know all about these sports. Engaging prior knowledge is a fundamental part of frontloading. There's a historically accurate description of each competition with each slide with photos of sculptures and works of art from the Ancient Greeks participating in the events. I integrate this powerpoint into a unit by presenting it before reading
This packet of questions for Catcher in the Rye is 37 pages long and contains 3000 words. It's fairly large. I use this to supplement the reading in the class. Many driven students read without the support of the reading guide, but many need this extra support. These questions give students something to look for while reading. It guides them toward important parts of the book and helps them stay on course. Also, it provokes them to recall, inquire, and relate to the text. It includes a variety
This is an English/Government/Journalism lesson focused on analyzing word choice and sentence structure as persuasive tools in an interview of Kellyanne Conway conducted by Chris Cuomo on CNN on August 4, 2017. Activity PurposeI noticed some people seem to be impressed by what Kellyanne Conway has been doing within interviews with journalists. Where the people she is representing are often more direct, she is speaking in persuasive ways that dodge, distract, inform, and redirect both the interv

Need a break from analysis and rigorous contextual exercises? These coloring pages are designed with the ancient sculptures of the figures of Greek Mythology. Drawing is a great time to ruminate on the deeper ideas students are studying. Personally, I created these because my wife's just endlessly coloring when she comes home from work. It's how she winds down almost every night. Then, at school the kids are always doodling all over their papers. So, while not a skill on any standardized test,
These are slips of paper to hand out after every chapter.
Simply hand out each "reading check" (or quiz) to the kids when they enter the classroom, then grade them aloud.
I modeled this on my college English professor's quizzes (Aaron Schab, University of Idaho)
There are less than 5 questions per chapter. Really short, obvious answers. Either you read the chapter or you didn't. It's 'who's the main character' or 'who kissed the main character' type questions-- not rocket science.

High-engagement lessons for analyzing novels!I use these to get into novels in a unique, modern way that involves social mediae-sque approach. Kids like that they get to imagine what characters are thinking, and what they might say if they had social media. I get to help kids work especially on VOICE of the characters, which includes colloquialisms, slang, and idiomatic terms specific to the time period, location, age and demographic of the character. Kids love to create these-- they usually re

This is a short story adapted from Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome by E.M. Berens. It is 8.7 Grade level and 1756 words long. Summary: Persia wades war on the Athenians to quelch a rebellion. The Athenian commander sends a messenger, Pheidippidies, to Sparta to request support. The character runs to Sparta and back.
