Students will read a ruler (cm), graduated cylinder (mL), measuring cup (mL), triple beam balance (g), kitchen scale (kg/g), and a balance scale (g). In our class, we use hand signals to show the teacher what each student is thinking. These signs are made in the center of kid's chests so that others around them can not see. It has been my experience that as soon as a kid raises their hand, everyone else is done and doesn't try anymore. So, with the hand signals, everyone is on an even playing field.
